The Magic of Southern Morocco – Between the Sahara and the Atlantic
Southern Morocco is a region full of contrasts, magic, and breathtaking natural beauty. From the golden sand dunes of the Sahara to the wild waves of the Atlantic, a landscape unfolds that offers both silence and powerful energy. Here, where time often seems to pass more slowly, Morocco reveals its most fascinating aspects.

The Endless Expanse of the Sahara – An Oasis of Silence
One of the most impressive places for me, Karo, is the Sahara, particularly the area around M'hamid. Here, I find a silence that is hard to put into words. When I sit in the soft sand dunes and listen to the wind, I feel a deep connection with nature. The sunset transforms the desert into a sea of gold, orange, and deep red – a sight I can never get enough of. And after a sandstorm, the Sahara shows itself anew every day, with untouched patterns in the sand, as if it is constantly rewriting its own story.
The camels, slowly moving through the endless expanse, embody an incomparable tranquility and calmness. These wonderful animals, created for life in the desert, fascinate me time and time again. They teach us to discover a special strength in slowness.
The People of the South – A Diversity of Cultures and Traditions
Southern Morocco is not only unique in its landscapes, but the people here also contribute to the unmistakable magic of this region. Various Berber tribes, including the Ait Atta, the Draoui, and the Sahrawi, shape the culture of this area. Their hospitality, deep connection to nature, and ancient traditions make every encounter special.
Some nomadic families still live in the desert today, moving their herds from one watering hole to the next, while preserving centuries-old knowledge about survival in the desert. Their stories, their knowledge of the stars, the weather, and desert herbs are fascinating and invaluable.
The Wild Atlantic – The Pure Power of Nature
While the Sahara is an oasis of calm, the coast unfolds a completely different kind of energy. I am especially fond of Tamraght near Agadir and Essaouira. The towering waves crash powerfully against the rocks, the salty wind penetrates every fiber of the body, and the expansive sandy beaches invite long walks.
Essaouira is a small gem on the Atlantic, with its distinctive flair. The white and blue houses, the narrow alleys, the artistic cafés, and the vibrant music scene make this city a place that exudes creativity and freedom. Tamraght, on the other hand, enchants with its relaxed atmosphere, gentle beaches, and hidden small street cafés and restaurants where one can simply enjoy life.
A Paradise for Humans and Animals
What especially touches me is how street animals are treated in these cities. The many cats and dogs living on the streets are not simply left to fend for themselves. Many animal-loving people ensure that they find food and some protection. This compassion and the silent bond between humans and animals make life here even more special. Unfortunately, there are also numerous people who throw stones and kick the animals out of fear. However, the animals are grateful for every kind word, every stroke, and a little bite of food from the lunch table.
